Temple of Great Gods

The Temple of Great Gods is one of the most significant archaeological sites of Greece and it is located in Palaiopolis, approximately 7 kilometers away from Kamariotissa and our hotel. It was created by Aioleis colonists and was dedicated to worshiping and performing of Mysteries of Great Gods. At 1863, at the site of the Temple was found the statue of winged Nike of Samothrace, which today constitutes one of the most important exhibits in the Louvre Museum in Paris.

Archeological museum of Samothrace

In the archeological site of Palaiopolis is accommodated the Archeological museum of Samothrace. The museum is divided into 4 halls, where findings from the Temple of Great Gods are hosted as well as a copy of the statue of winged Nike of Samothrace, equally spectacular as the original.

Folklore Museum of Samothrace

The Folklore Museum of Samothrace is housed in a renovated mansion at “Chora”. There are kept items of the island’s folklore, which form a representative picture of its tradition.

Panagia Krimniotissa

On the south side of the island, the church of Panagia Krimniotissa is located on the top of a rock, onto the beach of Pachia Ammos. It is worth visiting mostly at sunset, while the view is enchanting.

Pachia Ammos: Is located at the southernmost point of the island and it is accessible by car. It’s the most known beach of Samothrace with long golden sand and crystal clear blue waters.

Kipos: 14 kilometers from Therma at the end of the road lies this unique beach with high imposing rocks and gray gravel.

Vatos: Is a magnificent beach with white pebbles, surrounded by high cliffs. It is accessible by sea and the boat that goes around the island. A little bit further from Vatos, is located the biggest waterfall of the Mediterranean, named “Kremastos”.

“Vathres” are the trademark of Samothrace and are natural pools – lagoons created within the cavities of rocks following small or large waterfalls. The most known vathres are “Gria Vathra” and vathres of “Fonias”.
To reach “Gria Vathra” you must pass through Therma village.

For the vathres of “Fonias” you must continue for about another kilometer east of Therma village and at the point where the road crosses the stream of “Fonias”, there is a parking area. Afterwards you must follow the path alongside with the stream of “Fonias” through a forest of plane trees.

The journey to the first vathra is the more accessible, lasts for about 30 to 45 minutes and at the end of it you’ll meet the homonym waterfall which reaches a total of 15 meters in height. The most daring can continue the journey towards the second and third vathra, however with sufficient attention.
